A rich, buttery snack which goes wonderfully with tea. Restores a lot of health.

Shortbread is a healing item in Rule of Rose. Similar to the Biscuit or the Scone, these sugary and buttery snacks are meant to be consumed along with tea as part of afternoon teatime. They originated from Scotland, where they are also considered as a traditional treat to be eaten during Christmas season.

Background[]

Shortbreads are the Scottish equivalent of the Biscuits that Jennifer finds in the Airship and Orphanage. Unlike the Biscuits, however, a Shortbread is only oven-baked with regular wheat flour, sugar and butter. They are always baked without any leavening agent such as baking soda or baking powder. Its crumbling texture, upon preparation is made possible because of the high fat content from the butter. This texture in particular was where the Shortbread got its name from. Jennifer may have taken some with her to complement her growing stockpile of assorted snacks and sweets.

Characteristics[]

Compared to the Minced Pie or the Scone, the Shortbread is one of the best healing items that the player should obtain. It is better than the two aforementioned healing items, only to be outclassed by the Lollipop (which heals slightly more), Chocolate (heals by an even greater degree), and White Chocolate (heals completely). The player should try to keep an Inventory of two Shortbreads or two Lollipops at all times.

Some Shortbreads are hidden in the environment that the player must uncover by issuing the Search Command to Brown. These Shortbreads can be discovered when a Marble has been assigned to the Find Slot from the Inventory. Other Shortbreads can be obtained through bartering with the Gift Box. In the case of the latter, 12 Marbles or 8 Clothespins are needed to receive a single Shortbread.

Infinite Healing Items Exploit[]

During "The Funeral" chapter at night, in a hallway on the first floor connected to the main lobby, two Imps can be found. Kill them and pick up the shiny items (Lollipop and Shortbread), and leave the hallway. Then re-enter the hallway and repeat the process. This will make the rest of "The Funeral" and the final boss in "Stray Dog and the Lying Princess" easier.
