The Paring Knife is a one-handed melee weapon in Rule of Rose. It is a simple knife used to peel the skins of various fruits. The sharpness of its blade will enable Jennifer to use it as a potential weapon against the Imps she and Brown will encounter during "The Unlucky Cloverfield" chapter.

Background

In "The Unlucky Cloverfield," the Paring Knife can be obtained after retrieving the Dessert Fork along with the Green Butterfly at the Guest Room Hall. Jennifer will eventually find the Paring Knife behind the counter of the Cafeteria on the Upper Deck. The Cafeteria can be accessed upon recovering the One-Leaf Key and, later, the Two-Leaf Key upon combining the One-Leaf Key and the Copper Leaf.

Characteristics

As the second one-handed melee weapon that the player encounters in the game, the Paring Knife is a somewhat better weapon to use than the Dessert Fork. While the Paring Knife will later be outclassed by the Kitchen Knife for one-handed weapons and the Steel Pipe among two-handed weapons, the Paring Knife should suffice for the duration of "Unlucky Cloverfield." The Imps found in this chapter consist of regular Horrible Imps that are unarmed and supported by the occasional Rat Imp, the latter of whom will only being appearing at a few locations upon recovering the Blue Butterfly at the Guest Room Hall.

Trivia

• The blade of the Paring Knife has what appears to be dried blood on the blade. The weapon's description, when examined in the Inventory, alludes to it by warning the player about the sharpness of the blade.
• It is unknown whose dried blood was left on the blade when Jennifer obtains it.
